What I did on my Summer Vacation

Going back to school after summer vacation is never easy. Wearing socks for the first time in three months and sitting on a plastic chair for hours is something that takes some getting used to. We're not quite sure whether the "What I did on my Summer Vacation" essay is torture for the first week back, or whether it's a nice way to reminisce. Either way, it's an inevitable back-to-school tradition and, since collectively the Moomah team went all over the globe this summer, we thought we'd share ours with you. Now go outside and enjoy your last few weeks, days and hours of summer before it's time to write your own!

new Jersey

Where: Long Beach Island, New Jersey

Favorite thing I did: Sat on the deck, drinking my coffee and waiting for dolphin sightings.

Best thing I ate: Start the day with a fun breakfast at Scojo’s & Uncle Will’s Pancake House. Go back in time at the Holiday Snack Bar. End every day with ice cream: Skipper Dipper, Do Me A Flavor & Harvey Cedars Ice Cream. AND a place with gluten-free deliciousness: Surfside Coffeehouse in Surf City - yum!

One recommendation: Go Antiquing and do some miniature golfing as the sun goes down at Hartland Miniature Golf & Arcade

Next time I would: Not be reluctant to take part in the waterpark. It was a blast!

Italy

Where: Praiano, Amalfi Coast

Favorite thing I did: Jump off a boat into the crystal water and swim into the glowing caves.

Best thing I ate: Lunch at La Conca Del Sogno with wine and peaches.

One recommendation: Take a cooking lesson from an Italian masterchef and do a day trip to Capri.

Next time I would: Visit the Blue Grotto and take a boat to Amalfi instead of driving - those roads are too windy!!!

Italy

Where: Rome, Italy

Favorite thing I did: Went to Gladiator School!

Best thing I ate: The fresh mozerella at Taverna Flavia - yum. For lunch take the kids to Il Pomodoro- it's not very charming, but great for kids and the food is fantastic.

One recommendation: Take a vespa ride through the streets.

Next time I would: Build in some down time and find somewhere to relax mid-day if you're with children. There are pony rides in the Villa Borghese gardens!

Washington State

Where: Diamond Lake in Spokane, Washington

Favorite thing I did: Ate bubblegum ice-cream, anchored the boat in the middle of the lake for swimming, and watched my brother flip the Catamaran!

Best thing I ate: The slow-cooked pulled pork my sister-in-law made and the BBQ ribs my uncle got at Mason's.

One recommendation: Go to Owen's, an authetic soda fountain and deli. Order a huckleberry shake.

Next time I would:  Extend my trip!

MAINE

Where: Sullivan and Acadia National Park

Favorite thing I did: Jumped off the dock into freezing cold water and Sunday dinner at The Fisherman's Inn.

Best thing I ate: $5 dollar lobster rolls at Tracey's Lobster and Clams.

One recommendation: Take a hike to the top of Acadia Mountain and then go for a swim at Echo Lake.

Next time I would: Take the ferry to Bar Harbor.

IsraEl

Where: Jerusalem and Tel Aviv

Favorite thing I did:  Float in the Dead Sea covered in mud and roam the Old City of Jerusalem.

Best thing I ate: Hummus and Shnitzle Pita from Falafel Gabi. Abu Gosh restaurant in Abu Gosh for some hummus. Abulafia Bakery in Jaffa for bourekas - it's all amazing.

One recommendation: A Beudoin Tent Dinner at sunset.

Next time I would: Visit Eilat, take a trip to the Ein Gedi and eat so much more!
