Make A Difference
  • Soul Kitchen Soul Kitchen

With so many Americans going hungry every day, it is both refreshing and inspiring to see those who have the ability to make a difference, do just that. The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation works to “combat issues that force families and individuals into economic despair… and support innovative community efforts to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.” One amazing community project run by the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, and Jon and Dorothea Bongiovi themselves, is Soul Kitchen.

  • The Green Egg and The Haiti Project The Green Egg and The Haiti Project

Because of the hurricane in 2008 that devasted Haiti, and the work we've done with our sister-organization, The Portrait Project we have developed a passionate connection to the country and the people of Haiti. Through the Portrait Project, we had the rare opportunity to see kids from New York City interact with kids of the same age in Port-au-Prince whose lives were devasted by the hurricane, gaining insight into their lives of these incredible people. It's our strong bond Haiti - its people and its culture - that make our ears prick up when we hear of others commited to helping survivors in Haiti. This is how we became aware of The Green Egg and it's affiliation with The Haiti Projects.

Going back to school is often something kids, and even parents, take for granted. School is an expected part of life; a place that we must attend in order to learn and gain the skills needed to move forward in the world. However, while this may be the case in many of our communities, it is not necessarily true nation-wide and certainly not worldwide.

Children's books, their stories and illustrations, can be so much more than they appear. They can be memories, reminders of stages in our lives, morals that we live by, and dreams that we hold. At Moomah we love to say that "a book is not over just because you've reached the last page." We choose to use our older books and recylce them into crafted treasures as a keep sake for ourselves and our children. But what about those children who never even get to the first page?
